Expired Peak Three

The RVA area is pleased to announce the first Peak Three course to be held in the NE region of Trail Life USA (Officially numbered 2019-P3-NER-001).  It will be held on October 4-5 at Crestwood Presbyterian Church located at 1200 Charter Colony Parkway.  This is an adult leader training course. It’s the last of a three part course:  Peak One is an introduction to Trail Life; Peak Two is a more thorough course encompassing how a troop operates and Peak Three is an Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.  You do not need to have completed Peak One or Peak Two prior to enrolling in this course.  You will be camping in the woods on the church’s property.  We will provide all meals (Friday night dinner, crackerbarrel, Saturday breakfast and lunch.  Here are the things you should plan to bring:

Tent/ground cloth or hammock
Sleeping bag/pad
Toiletries/towel (indoor plumbing is available)
Weather appropriate clothing including Trail Life Uniform if you have one
Rain gear
Mess kit (bowl, spork and mug at a minimum)
Water bottle (drinking water is available)
Pocket knife
Compass (if you have one)
Trailman’s Handbook
Bible
Pen/Pencil
Personal First Aid Kit
Flashlight
Sun/Bug protection
Matches/Firestarter
Backpack (should be able to hold most of your belongings)
Backpack cover (a large trash bag will work fine)
Medical Form  (can be a copy from the Troop’s records.  It will be returned to you at the end of the course)

Instructors will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, and work with woods tools, and about ropes, planning campfire programs and devotion/worship times, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing techniques, and outdoor ethics. Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Trailman’s Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Trail Life to yourself and the youth you serve. It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader. The program will also give you the opportunity to work with other Trail Life leaders from your area, meet new friends, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders.
