1. This summer we are planning an extraordinary high adventure trek. It will be an end to end backpacking trek of the Appalachian Trail that runs through the Shenandoah National Park. This hike is about 115 miles long, has approximately 23,000′ elevation gain and 24,000′ elevation loss. The proposed dates of the hike would be June 12th through June 21st. Adventurers and Navigators who are 14 or have completed the 8th grade are invited to participate. Space will be limited to 4 men and 16 Trailmen. If the number of Trailmen is less than 16, more men are welcome to join the team. Our two team leaders will be experienced backpackers: Frank Corwin, now committee chair of VA-1807 and Donald Marsden, who will serve as our chaplain. The name of the trek, Frontier Mission Trek, will serve as our theme and focus of the trek. The cost of the trek will be $250 per team member. Each will get a couple of Frontier Mission Trek t-shirts to wear on the trek and to remember it by. Costs will include all of your food and park and camping fees.  This will include the food on the overnight prep hikes.  The only exclusions will be food purchased in the park or to and from the trailheads.  The two overnight prep hikes will be $25 each for folks not joining us on the long hike. All hikers for all hikes must be fully registered members of Trail Life USA, including adults. There will be at least two shakedown hikes that all team members would need to attend. The first of these will be a day hike (with loaded packs) at Lake Anna State Park on the morning of April 3rd.  The two other shakedown hikes will be over the weekend of April 24 and May 22 (location TBD).  All 115 mile hikers should try to make two of these prep hikes. Please register each person separately.  This form applies for folks who are just registering to attend the prep hikes.
